Things to Do in Kihei and Wailea (South Maui)

Yesterday, we featured Things to do in Lahaina and Kaanapali, a popular spot for a lot of tourists. But if you’re planning a trip to the Hawaiian Islands, make sure that you visit south Maui as well. I don’t think your trip will be complete if you leave South Maui out, particularly Kihei and Wailea. Maui is where we call home, and I’d highly recommend that you need to visit Maui once in your life, you won’t regret a single moment that you’ll spend there.

Maui is filled with several sensational places but the areas of South Maui are certainly to die for. Keeping that in mind, I’ve gathered a bunch of things to do in Kihei and Wailea for you to have a memorable and fantastic holiday.

Best Things to Do in Kihei and Wailea

Kihei and Wailea are such places that provide a whole new experience no matter how many times you’ve looked at them or wandered through them. From the white sandy beaches to the wide lava fields, Kihei and Wailea always leave their fans awestruck. Now, I’m coming to the exciting part of this article where I’ll start telling you about the best things to do in Kihei and Wailea, also known as South Maui.

La Perouse Bay

La Perouse Bay, the famous lava field, takes the word south, literally. This lava field is located to the far end of South Maui and it is also referred to as the end-of-the-road destination. Apart from lava fields, this place consists of a large number of trails which can be good news for my nature-loving friends. On the other hand, this place also contains sea estuaries in which you can dip and wear off all the heat from the lava. However, you will need to put on a lot of sunscreen if you’re coming to La Perouse Bay.

Sanctuary of Humpback Whale

The US Congress established this sanctuary in 1992 to preserve the habitat of one of the most prehistoric and beloved mammals, whales. The humpback whales of the North Pacific are protected in this sanctuary. People from all around the world come to visit this sanctuary to know more about the whales and their habitat. Here’s the kicker, this sanctuary contains all the shallow waters which are about 600 feet deep.

4th Friday Town Party in Kihei

People having fun at the party in Kihei, South Maui

Thank God, it’s that Friday. This is what you will say after you attend one Friday town party in Kihei. Kihei is extremely famous for its town parties which are held on every 4th Friday of the month. Anybody on the premises of Kihei can attend this party and have the best time of his/her life. The best part? An entire night dedicated to dancing, laughing, playing, and being happy with your loved ones. What else would you need?

A South Maui Luau

What do you think about live entertainment being coupled with a Hawaiian feast? This is what Luau is. The luau in South Maui includes a lot of activities such as Hawaiian chanting, Hulu dances, stories about great Hawaii or some other, cultural activities, and many more. People only see these luaus as the culture of Hawaii but the best part?

South Maui shows variations in the culture as well. From Polynesian culture to Fijian, luaus have won the hearts of the people. Though a piece of personal advice, I think you may want to learn some dance moves because you simply won’t be able to resist them. Seriously, guys, you have to attend a luau whenever you visit South Maui. I can’t put more emphasis on this.

Secret Cove Beach

One of my favorite spots on the island, and it’s somewhat hidden (though thanks to Google a lot more people know about it), Secret Cove Beach aka Makena Cove aka Secret Cove. Follow your GPS to Secret Cove Beach and look for this door sized entry way.

What’s the Bottom Line?

Maui is famous for its beaches but it is so much more than that, as South Maui portrays it. You can do a lot of things in South Maui and not even a single one will make you regret your decision. Therefore, if you are planning a trip to this corner of Maui, you need to prepare yourself for some thrilling and adventurous things to do in Kihei and Wailea. Bask the gorgeous sun in the day and party in the night. Make the most of every single moment and make your entire holiday worth it because South Maui is worth it.
